Paintings

After many years as an oil painter, I began to search for ways of getting more immediacy and texture in my paintings. The result of a decade of transformation is a mixed media process that combines casein paint, a water based asphalt product, gesso and acrylic gel transfers on birch plywood. My tools are brushes, scrapers, sanders, brayers, rollers and wood carving tools. The resulting paintings combine heavily textured surfaces with areas of smooth, untouched wood grain.
